The full transcript provides a detailed analysis of President Biden's comments on the ceasefire, offering insights into the nuances of hope versus expectation in diplomatic efforts towards lasting peace.
Well, howdy there, internet people, let's bow again.
So today, we are going to talk about something
President Biden said,
and we're going to manage expectations a little bit
and talk about the difference between hope and will,
or hope and expect.
And we're going to just kind of run through
what's going on, because he said something
and the reporting that came out immediately following it, it might leave people with the
wrong impression.
So what did he say?
He said that he hopes to see a ceasefire by Monday.
Hopes, not expects, not will, hopes.
It is important to understand the difference between those words right now because it is
not a guarantee. Things are moving in the right direction and some of the
moves have been pretty big. But you shouldn't put yourself in a position
where you immediately lose faith if it doesn't happen on Monday. The other thing
to keep in mind here is that he said ceasefire. It is not just moving in that direction, it is
moving in the direction of getting to a durable peace, which is the actual goal. Remember, a
ceasefire is a stepping stone. It doesn't actually end it. The durable peace is what people have been
aiming for. That's what people have wanted. That's what the wiser foreign
policy initiatives have been about.
Okay, so is Monday just wish casting? No. No, they have, it's giving them a whole
week to work out some details as things move closer together. There has been a
little bit of give-and-take on the various sides. We don't know what has
been agreed, but the movements that we have seen publicly, such as let's just say
there's been a little bit of reorganization within the Palestinian
authority, which is an entity that would play a key role in the U.S.-backed plan for a durable peace.
That wouldn't matter when you're just talking about a brief ceasefire, but it matters when
it comes to the peace. It's stuff like that that is pushing in that direction. Biden's team is
telling him things are going well and he said it publicly. He probably shouldn't
have. I certainly wouldn't have put a day on it, but he did. It might be
intentional on the US's part to apply a little bit of pressure, kind of
establish a self-imposed timeline for people to get their positions together.
together. There are still a lot of things up in the air, such as what happens with Rafa.
That's a big one. There is reason to hope. He used the right word. Just don't take that
word to mean something else. Things are going the right way, but things can go sideways
again. It appears that most of the parties involved are inching towards a
real peace move. So be hopeful but be prepared. Anyway, it's just a thought.
Alright, y'all have a good day.
