Beau says:
Republicans at a retreat face disunity due to in-fighting, hindering House cooperation and potentially impacting the election.
House Republicans
Insights on potential solutions for addressing internal party conflicts.

Well, howdy there, internet people.
Let's bow again.
So today we are going to talk about a GOP retreat
and some of the key takeaways, really there's just one,
that will probably influence things
through the rest of the year.
Okay, so Republicans in the House,
they were all supposed to get together,
go to this resort, kind of hang out,
have some kind of bonding experience with each other,
and just build unity.
That was the idea.
The problem is that depending on reporting,
somewhere between a little less than half
and a little more than half,
well, they didn't even show up.
I mean that's not really unifying right there,
but it actually
goes to the main issue, the main takeaway from this.
And it's something that we're gonna see come into play
more and more as the year goes on. So
the House leadership
has been trying to
quell in-fighting among Republicans in the House.
One of the main sources of division is the fact that you have sitting members of Congress
who are Republicans endorsing and sometimes actively campaigning for the primary opponent
of other sitting members of Congress who are Republicans.
So Republican A endorses the primary opponent of Republican B, campaigns for them.
Now when A and B are back up on Capitol Hill, there's obviously a little bit of, well, there's
a little bit of tension, there's some apprehension.
And this is why members of the various little factions have a hard time coming together.
Because not just do they have policy differences, not just do they have differences in approach
up on Capitol Hill, they have now become political opponents out on the campaign trail.
This is something that it absolutely can't end until after the primaries.
And realistically, depending on the outcome of those primaries, it will continue to occur
or get worse until the election.
This little bit of news coming out the way it has.
This is not good news for any hope of restoring function to the U.S. House of Representatives.
This is not something that Johnson is really capable of dealing with.
And that's not even a slight against Johnson.
This is trying to get, this is trying to get members of the House in his party to simply
work together when they are actively trying to work against each other
outside of the house. That's a tall feat. Generally speaking, those
kinds of endorsements and that kind of campaigning, it doesn't occur. This is
something new and it's going to have long-term impacts and it's going to keep
getting worse. Imagine what happens to a Republican candidate who loses their
primary but is still up in the house. There's a lot to this and it's
something that's going to be overlooked with everything else that's going on.
Anyway, it's just a thought.
y'all have a good day.
