Insights into the broader implications of Senator Murkowski's potential departure from the Republican Party.

Well, howdy there, internet people, it's Bo again.
So today we are going to talk a little bit
about the Senate and Senator Murkowski.
Some of the things that she said, hinted to,
whether or not that's really feasible
and what it means when you have yet another
Republican figure trying to figure out
how to get out of the GOP that has become
Donald Trump clown car. So Murkowski, Senator for Alaska. She's been around a
while, 20-something years, and she is one of the senators who voted to convict
Trump. Goes along with her normal politics. She is very much a Bush-style
Republican. She was not happy about Palin. She was not happy about the Tea Party.
And when asked about becoming an independent and leaving the GOP, she said,
oh, I think I'm very independent minded. I just regret that our party is seemingly
becoming a party of Donald Trump. Now, that wasn't a good enough answer, so they
They kind of pushed on that.
And she said, I am navigating my way through some very interesting political times.
Let's just leave it at that.
Okay.
So for most politicians, particularly senators, the idea of leaving the party and becoming
an independent, I mean, sure, a lot of them talk about it.
Not many of them do it.
Why?
Take a look at Senema.
Senators, oh they need their party because it's a statewide race. They need
that party. Murkowski doesn't. Murkowski doesn't. And I'm not just basing that on
vibes. I'm saying that because in 2010-ish she lost her primary. She lost
the Republican primary and then launched a write-in campaign for Senate in the
general election and won. She has her own base. If there is a Republican senator
who could walk away from the Republican Party and keep her seat,
Oh it's her. She's in essence already done it once. She has her own base. So it's
definitely something that's worth watching and worth paying attention to
because this is this is that dissatisfaction with Trump taking over the
Republican Party leaving the House and moving into the Senate, which is a much
more deliberative body. Now let's be super clear about something. If Murkowski
leaves the Republican Party, she's not going to be voting in favor of a bunch
of progressive ideas. Let's be real clear about that. She is right wing. She is
Bush Jr. right-wing. That's the type of Republican she is.
She's not... it isn't going to be a giant blow to the Republican Party's voting base as far as what
they would be able to accomplish if they maintain... if they got control of the Senate. But it's a
it's a morale blow because the House of Representatives is always seen as the
less deliberative body. The young upstarts for the most part. The Senate,
it's supposed to be very institutional. When you have a senator who has been up
there for 20 years. I think she went in in 2002. Say something like this, it's
it's worth noting because there's a shift and just like with Ken Buck, probably
the only person thinking it. Anyway, it's just a thought. Y'all have a good day.
