Well, howdy there, internet people, it's Beau again.
So today, we are going to talk about the US Senate,
the Senate for a change, not the House.
And we're going to talk about what might happen today,
but more than likely gonna happen next week,
why that delay is occurring,
and just kind of run through the situation,
because all of this deals with the impeachment
of the Homeland Security Secretary.
If you don't remember, a while back, the House voted on this, and I want to say the impeachment
occurred by a single vote, if I'm not mistaken.
Now, the indications were that the House was going to send over the articles of impeachment
today, Wednesday, as you're watching this.
Rumor mill says that the Republican Party is going to try to delay that until next week.
And that will probably happen.
It might not.
But it will probably occur.
The reason they want that is because, well, I mean, he's going to be acquitted.
This is not going anywhere.
And as I understand it, if it is sent over on Wednesday, the current plan is to do a
motion to dismiss immediately. Now Schumer hasn't said this, but there's been a lot of talk about
it. And if they do that motion to dismiss immediately, there might even be bipartisan
support for it. A number of Republicans have indicated that they do not believe the House
met the standard of high crimes and misdemeanors on this one. I believe the articles of impeachment
or failure to carry out U.S. law and breach of trust, something along those lines.
Impeaching a cabinet member is rare.
The last time it occurred was, I want to say 1876, five, somewhere in there.
It's been a while.
In this case, this was very much a, you know, find me a person and I'll find the reason
to impeach them type of thing.
They were, the House Republicans were very set on impeaching somebody for something.
And this is who wound up getting it.
The Senate, again, more deliberative body, didn't really like that.
So a motion to dismiss, like right away, it really might have some Republican support.
Now if it goes to next week before they send it over, if the Republicans do get the delay,
they might be able to turn it into more of a show in some way.
They might get something out of it, some mileage out of it.
I mean, they don't have the votes.
The impeachment is not going to move forward.
He's not going to be convicted.
So we'll have to wait and see how it plays out, but the two options are it goes over
today and gets a motion to dismiss that will almost assuredly pass, or it goes over next
week, there will probably still be a motion to dismiss that might pass, but the Republicans
at least have a chance of getting a sound bite on Fox News.
That's really where it's at and then that's going to be the end of this, but we'll have
have to wait and see what the House Republicans decide to do as far as sending it over when
they plan to.
I think the reasoning that they're going to use is it's better to do an impeachment
at the beginning of the week.
I think that's the explanation they want to use for the delay, but we'll see what they
come up with.
Anyway, it's just a thought.
