A deeper dive into the potential long-term consequences of prioritizing social media engagement over effective governance.

Well, howdy there, Internet people. It's Beau again.
So today we're going to talk about how to interpret the actions of the new House majority.
How to look at what the Republicans are doing and try to make it make sense.
Because their actions shortly after taking control of the House,
from a traditional political standpoint, they don't make sense.
They're doubling down on things that they know are unpopular.
And it's led to a lot of questions.
During the Trump administration, I was asked, after kind of predicting Trump's moves,
I was asked how I was able to do that.
It's because I stopped thinking about him as a Republican president
and started thinking about him as a fascist.
I didn't ask myself, what would a Republican president do?
I asked myself what a fascist would do.
And it gave me better insight into his next moves.
With this House majority, don't view them as normal members of the House of Representatives.
View them as social media commentators.
Edgy social media commentators.
That's how you have to view them.
If you look at them through that lens, their actions are going to make a whole lot more sense.
We've talked about it on the channel repeatedly.
The Republican Party has fallen into its own echo chamber.
They believe that the most vocal voices on social media are representative of their base,
despite all evidence to the contrary.
And that's how they're acting.
They're trying to get those likes, those shares on social media.
You want to know why they introduced not one, but two things,
dealing with family planning and doubling down on something that is widely acknowledged
to have really hurt them in the midterms?
That's why.
Because their most vocal base is in favor of it.
That's what it has to do with.
Don't view this House as an entity interested in governing.
It's not what they're about.
They're about creating controversy and getting that social media feedback that they can use
to fundraise off of.
That's what they're about.
View their actions through that lens.
This isn't true of all Republicans in the House, but it is true of those that are going
to be making the most waves, those that are going to be introducing legislation like this.
You even have representatives that are on the Republican side of the aisle that are
very, very, very much in favor of curtailing family planning to an extreme, basically throwing
their hands up and being like, what are y'all doing?
Because that individual is actually there as a politician, not as some edgelord social
media commentator.
View them through that lens and everything they do will make sense.
The good news for the Democratic Party is that this House may be the most effective
thing for them when it comes to building to 2024.
As the Republican Party doubles down on policies that are unpopular and have already hurt them
politically, Biden's poll numbers are going up, they're probably going to create a lot
of false controversies.
They're going to make stuff up and then propose solutions to it, and that will appeal to their
base on social media.
It's not going to help them with the independence they have to have to win.
The Republican Party is definitely going to do themselves a giant disservice.
The thing is, it's so ingrained that even if somebody was to explain this to them, it
wouldn't matter.
They have fallen that far down their own echo chamber.
They truly believe the comments that they get on social media will lead them to electoral
success despite all evidence to the contrary.
It only works for those people in deep, deep, deep red areas that don't need independence.
The problem is those are going to be the candidates that act like edgy social media commentators.
They're going to drag the rest of the Republican Party with them.
So when you try to figure out what they're doing, don't look for some grand plan.
It's not about that.
It's about getting engagement on social media because they think that that's going to propel
them to victory.
Anyway, it's just a thought. Have a good day.
