Beau says:
Beau explains the shifting international dynamics post Ukraine invasion, with Finland and Sweden moving towards NATO, increasing Putin's paranoia and potentially tying up Russian troops near borders.
International observers
Detailed analysis and background information on Finland and Sweden's decision to move closer to NATO.

Well, howdy there internet people, it's Bo again.
So today, we are going to talk about Finland,
and Putin, and Sweden, and Turkey, and Russia,
and that international poker game
where everybody's cheating.
We're going to talk about how things have changed,
what has changed, how Putin's mindset
is going to probably drive him to do something
he doesn't need to do, and what it all means.
So, after Putin's ill-advised invasion of Ukraine, things started to shift.
Countries that were traditionally non-aligned, they decided that they wanted to be part of
an alliance, especially if they were close to Russia.
So Finland and Sweden moved to join NATO.
Finland is officially part of NATO now.
Sweden is...
Turkey and Hungary are throwing up some roadblocks for them.
It's going to take a little bit longer, but realistically they'll probably end up joining
and even in the interim if something was to happen Sweden would align with NATO.
Now what does this mean?
immediately Russia's border with NATO has doubled, doubled.
This was always a major concern for him and it was something that he was trying to avoid
part of his, part of his reasoning and that this is like one of the few things that I
don't think was just a pretext, I think that this was actually something he was concerned
about was that he didn't want NATO countries right up on his border.
But that is definitely happening.
He has become more and more paranoid, Putin has, to the point where there are now reports
of loyalty tests and evaluations going on of pretty low-level officials, seeing if they
truly aligned with Russia, meaning Putin.
They're reviewing people's social media records and stuff like that.
If you're a good member of the party or whatever, you can even get perks like a good parking
spot.
But that paranoia is probably going to lead him to wanting to increase the amount of troops
that border. You'll probably see Russia start to build up. And it's all fine and
good. It's their country. If they want to station troops up there, there's
nothing wrong with that. It's also kind of completely unneeded. NATO is not going
to invade Russia. It's not really going to happen. In fact, a lot of NATO's
behavior related to Ukraine proves they have no interest in actually invading Russia, but
that's probably not how Putin sees it.
So those extra troops, that's probably going to happen.
What does that mean?
If you're putting troops in one place, you can't put them in another.
It's going to be a drain on resources for his operation in Ukraine.
So even though Finland joining, realistically, it adds a little bit of power to NATO.
Finland has never really been known as a military powerhouse, but it has stuff.
It does have a military, and it's not like an amateur one.
The real benefit here will end up being tying up Russian troops close to their border because
given his current state and some of the reporting that's coming out, he seems paranoid to a
degree that is surprising in a lot of ways.
security has become much tighter, and it's not security to protect from Ukraine or NATO,
it's to protect him from other people in Russia.
And the information about the evaluations of people's social media and stuff like that,
that's the sign of somebody who's losing their grip.
So more troops up there, not fighting, not in Ukraine, I mean that's a win.
That's a win.
Anyway, it's just a thought, y'all have a good day.
