Beau says:
The Republican Party's House budget win lacks substance and won't make it past the Senate, revealing disorganization and social media pandering.
Political observers, voters
The full transcript provides a detailed analysis of the Republican Party's budget victory and the implications for their legislative strategy and relationship with President Biden.
Well, howdy there, internet people, it's Bo again.
So today we are going to talk about
the Republican Party's big win.
The GOP in the House, they did something.
It is a major win.
They're claiming victory everywhere.
And we're going to just kind of go through
and talk about what happened.
If you don't know, McCarthy's budget passed.
McCarthy's budget passed, got through the House, the Republican Party was able to
get it through. I took that opportunity to create my own budget and my budget is
basically that Congress has to pay the debts and that they need to promote the
general welfare and that's pretty much the entirety of the budget and then me
and the dogs voted on it and then one of the cats came in the room and they
actually voted no but me and the dogs all voted yes so it was four to one so
we were able to get it through by a margin of three which incidentally is
more than McCarthy's budget had and I'm going to take my budget and I'm going to
mail it to President Biden, which means my budget has a much greater chance of actually getting to
his desk. So the Republican Party passed a budget, okay, in the House, which they control and it was
a major victory and it was very hard for them to pass their own budget in the House that they
control. It will now go to the Senate where it will probably die quietly and
never probably be voted on. The fact that the Republican Party in the House, that
Republicans in the House are claiming victory for this, and not just not just
are they taking the win and doing a victory lap, it's a major victory shows
how disorganized the Republican Party is in the House. It is a major victory for
them to get through a budget in a House where they only need their votes and
they almost missed it. What this shows, the victory lap that has occurred after
this disaster, shows that the Republicans in the House are still catering their
legislative agenda to social media. They're tailoring what they're doing to
appeal to a base that is very vocal on social media, not to the actual voter.
They still have not learned that social media likes do not equate to
votes. This wasn't a success. A success has a chance of going somewhere.
Legislation that doesn't stand any chance of getting signed is not a
victory. It is certainly not a major victory and given the fact that the
Republican Party had such a hard time getting it through, their intention, like
the way they're reading this is, well, we pushed this through, so now Biden will
have to come to us and negotiate. No, because y'all talked about all the
people who didn't like it. Y'all talked about who was opposed to it within the
Republican Party. Biden doesn't have to sit down with McCarthy, Biden has to sit
down with them. Y'all need to remember that Biden was in the Senate. He knows how it works.
This is not a victory. This was a failure for the Speaker of the House to have this
much trouble getting a budget through and it's a budget that will not make it through
the Senate that will not get signed. That's not a good sign. That's not a win. No matter
how much they talk about it as they win on social media, they're still begging Biden
to talk to them because it doesn't matter. They just publicly failed. I have to go to
post office. Anyway, it's just a thought. Y'all have a good day.
