Well, howdy there, internet people.
It's Bo again.
So today we're going to talk about Trump town halls and CNN.
CNN has announced that they will host Trump for a town hall.
And this has obviously caused a lot of discussion.
There has been a rightward lean coming
CNN for a bit now. This is pretty pronounced though. It has prompted calls
to no longer watch the network. Here's the reality. CNN says that they have a
long history of providing and hosting town halls for leading presidential
candidates. Yeah that's fine, that's fine. I get what they're saying there. However
it should be remembered that Trump is not your typical candidate, right? If they
run this the way they often do, it very well might be the moment that CNN
becomes Fox 2. It is a reasonable expectation that Trump gets up there and
is economical with the truth when it comes to, I don't know, the last election,
the potential indictments, the thing that happened at the Capitol. It is likely
that he repeats a lot of his false claims. It's likely that he invents new
ones. If CNN does not fact-check this, and I mean on the spot, right then, right
there, and he gets pushback for his false claims, there's nobody to blame but
themselves. They know who Trump is. They know the type of stuff that he says. They
are allowing him on their network with the very reasonable expectation that he
is going to say things about companies or people that might be defamatory. CNN
could lose what credibility it has over this.
They have to play this exactly right.
If they just let him answer the questions with no pushback, I would see, I would imagine
that CNN's ratings go into the toilet.
I think that their goal was to try to lean right and pick up some of Fox's viewers.
This is not the way to go about it.
This whole idea was a horrible idea to begin with.
Trump doesn't warrant a town hall in my opinion.
Yeah they have a tradition of doing it and you can't ignore that currently he is the
Republican frontrunner.
I get that, I understand that.
they need to put up some guardrails or they're going to lose viewers
permanently way more than they're going to gain and they may put themselves in a
situation where they they hosted somebody who said stuff that they
shouldn't have and I remember recently a network got in trouble for that. I think
were doing it in pursuit of ratings is my personal belief, but if they're not
incredibly careful we may see a replay of that. Trump is not somebody that you
can put on stage without fact-checking, without instantaneous fact-checking,
without pushing back against the claims that you know he's going to level. This
This was a bad move by CNN, and if they don't play it, I mean just right, they'll be paying
for it for a long time.
Anyway, it's just a thought, y'all have a good day.
