Beau says:
California and Florida governors set for a debate on Fox with Hannity, seeking political gains and national recognition.
Political observers
The full transcript provides additional insights into the motivations and strategies of the governors participating in the debate.
Well, howdy there, internet people, it's Beau again.
So today, we are going to talk about Sunday, Sunday, Sunday,
the grudge match of the governors,
the battle of the Sunshine States, yeah.
Okay, so if you missed it,
for what seems to be just totally inexplicable reasons,
the governors of California and Florida
have agreed to have a discussion.
They're going to have a debate
on Fox
with Hannity as the moderator.
The obvious question
for most people hearing this news
is
why exactly?
And through current political events?
Yeah, I mean it doesn't make any sense.
But if you look a little bit further down the road,
It totally does.
Okay, so they both have something to gain from it politically,
especially if they come out on top.
Right now, the governor of Florida
seeking the Republican nomination,
campaign is not going so well.
But he might be one of those people who believes
that eventually Trump will not be in the running,
that something will happen, legally speaking,
so he needs to continue to press on,
or he's just hoping to use it
to get his name out there a little bit more
and build a campaign for a different office
at a different time.
For the governor of California, at this point,
it seems pretty apparent
Newsom is planning to run for president at some point in the future. Building
that resume, that name recognition now. That explains a whole lot of his actions
over the last couple of years. Him seeking the Democratic nomination in 2024,
or 2028, I mean, it seems almost like a foregone conclusion at this point.
So that's the move.
That's what both of them are getting out of it, trying to reinvigorate the current
campaign for the governor of Florida, maybe build towards an alternative outcome.
And for the governor of California, yeah, yeah, that is absolutely a step in building
national profile to run for president of the United States. Now the question is
why on Fox and why with Hannity as the moderator, right? My guess is Newsom
agreed to do that because Newsom, he actually debates pretty well. So he
He might feel like he can walk into Fox and have a positive outcome.
Not just by showing that he doesn't have an issue walking into the lion's den, but if
he comes out on top, it's going to be a big national win for him.
He might also think, hey, you know, maybe it would be a good idea to present some alternate
views on Fox, kind of like that old question, you know, why do you rob banks?
That's where the money is.
If you want to reach Fox viewers, you probably have to go on Fox because they're not really
watching much of anything else.
And that may be part of it.
may actually be some altruistic reason for it. He's a politician, so I generally just
describe it to politics, and yeah, it tracks. But that's it. I have a feeling that it
might produce some interesting moments with the dynamic at play, because for the governor
Florida, he kind of has to produce fireworks if he wants to reinvigorate his
campaign. He has to have something really break loose. This would be a time to try
to get it. For Newsome, all he has to do is not lose. That's it. And it will be a
mark in his favor. If you don't want to watch it, don't worry, I will so you don't
have to. Anyway, it's just a thought. Y'all have a good day.
