Beau says:
The U.S. and Qatar freezing $6 billion intended for Iran sparks misinformation, urging redirection to aid civilians to prioritize peace.
Policy makers, diplomats, activists
More context on the potential consequences of misinformation and the importance of prioritizing humanitarian aid in diplomatic decisions.

Well, howdy there, internet people, it's Bo again.
So today, we are going to talk about $6 billion
and the more recent developments with it
and what those recent developments tell us
about a lot of politicians and where it goes from here.
OK, so if you missed the news, which seems unlikely,
But just in case, not too long ago, the United States was working out a deal.
They allowed some money that belonged to Iran that was in South Korea in a frozen account.
They allowed it to go to Qatar, where it was going to be dispersed for humanitarian stuff.
Used to buy that.
And that would go to Iran.
Then, everything happened in Israel, right?
And almost immediately, you had a bunch of politicians come out and say, that $6 billion,
it funded this.
It was all over Twitter.
It was all over network news.
They said it over and over again.
So much that people believed it.
Now a whole lot of people came out and debunked it.
like no actually that's not how any of this would work this is where the money
is they'd be getting it in these kind of supplies it hasn't even been released
yet so on and so forth but a lot of people they just didn't believe the the
debunks on it I guess because that talking point kept going cutter in the
United States have at least tentatively reached an agreement and that agreement
is to freeze that money right where it is.
So since it's going to be frozen in Qatar, Iran never got it.
Iran never got the money.
It's not just people who really understand it now.
It's headlines.
The money is frozen there.
So that means that all of those politicians that came out showed footage along with your
tax dollars funded this.
The reality is it was never US tax dollars and it never got to Iran.
They lied.
They just made it up to scare you, to provoke outrage, but none of it was true.
Undoubtedly people will still listen and believe them in the future.
And while that is normally something that we would go on and on about, we have another
question.
Realistically, the U.S. backing out on this is probably not a great idea.
Because all of this had to do with getting the wheels moving to get captives back.
Something that the US is trying to do right now.
Might not be a great idea to back out on the deal.
Because the people who you're trying to deal with now, they may not believe you'll follow
through.
Probably not a good idea.
Not only that, it will probably provoke a lot of anger.
And I know Americans are like, Ann, let them be mad.
And that's fine.
I get it.
I mean, it's not like that anger has caused bad things to happen at any point in time.
I have a suggestion though.
If the US and Qatar are going to freeze this money and not turn it over to Iran, maybe
it could go somewhere else to help reduce that anger.
Regardless of how you feel about the current conflict, when it is over, there will be a
lot of civilians in need.
If that money went to them, went to help them, it might go a long way to smoothing over the
inevitable diplomatic fallout that's going to come from backing out of the deal.
The alternative is to reach out to Iran or have Qatar do it and say, okay, we're freezing
this for a while, but you'll eventually get it.
That would be the other one.
But given Iran's current posture, it seems unlikely that they would be okay with that.
If it was announced that it would go to help those displaced, it might go a long way to
smoothing things over, and more importantly, keeping other people, other entities, other
countries out of the fight.
That actually needs to be the top priority right now.
Anyway, it's just a thought.
Y'all have a good day.
