Beau says:
Beau extends a pause in the conflict for one more day, addressing questions about the CIA Director's involvement in negotiations without causing alarm.
Diplomacy Observers
Insights on potential implications of Israel's planned resumption of operations and the urgency for a lasting peace agreement.

Well, howdy there, Internet people.
It's Beau again.
So today, we are going to talk about One More Day and the CIA.
So let's get to the news.
The pause has been extended for one day.
It occurred in a last minute deal.
And that's not really hyperbole there,
minutes before it expired.
And one of the important things to note
is that it was very clear that Israel was set to go right back to their operation, okay?
So those who are working on a more permanent framework, there's no grace period here.
They get it during the window of this pause or they don't.
They now have one more day to do it.
And then we're going to talk about this question that came in, and the question came in a few
times because people have noticed somebody who is involved in the negotiations is William
Burns, current director of the Central Intelligence Agency.
The question came in repeatedly, is that weird?
Is it worrisome that he's directly involved with the negotiations?
I always try to answer the question that was asked, which seemed to upset people last night
in a Kissinger video, but it is what it is.
Is it weird that the Director of Central Intelligence, William Burns, is directly involved in these
negotiations?
Depends on which part of that you're focused on.
Is it weird that the CIA boss is directly involved in a negotiation like this?
It's unusual, not unprecedented.
Is it weird that William Burns is directly involved?
No.
The weird thing here is not that Burns is involved in the negotiation.
The weird thing is that Burns is director of CIA.
Burns is a 30-plus-year diplomat, started in the early 80s and became head of CIA in
2021.
His experience is with diplomacy.
Keep in mind the top job at the CIA.
It's not about being a spy.
It's about being able to talk to the president.
It's really kind of how it works.
My guess is that Burns got this job because he was deputy secretary of state under Obama,
which means he probably worked with Biden and talked to Biden then.
know that Biden likes to get his briefings in everyday language, Burns is probably somebody
that can do that.
So the weird part isn't that Burns is involved.
The weird part is Burns having that title.
If he was still with the State Department, he would absolutely be involved.
I want to say he was ambassador to Jordan for a while.
So it's unusual, not unprecedented,
but when you factor in who Burns is and what his career has really
been about this entire time, it makes complete sense.
It isn't something that should be scary.
And remember, that top position is more a political one
than an actual spy one.
If the people involved were like deputy director of whatever,
that's when it would be a little bit more eyebrow raising.
So right now, there's one more day.
They're working on another, trying to extend it out.
It is very clear that Israel does plan on going back to it.
In fact, when they announced the deal for the extra day,
they referred to this as an operational pause.
No more humanitarian pause, no more truce,
nothing like that. They were set to go back
right then, at dawn. So those who are trying to be the
peacemakers, they're on a clock and there's no
extensions. Anyway, it's just a thought. Y'all have a good day.
