Beau says:
Rudy Giuliani faces a defamation lawsuit in Georgia, with a jury trial set to determine the substantial financial repercussions of his actions.
Legal observers
Full details and context of Giuliani's defamation lawsuit in Georgia.
Well, howdy there, internet people, it's Bo again.
So today we are going to talk about Rudy Giuliani
and Georgia and Ruby Freeman
and a claim that was described as quote, simply nonsense.
And where it goes from here, what's happening
and Rudy's latest setback as it is.
Okay, so if you don't know what's going on,
on December 11th,
the jury trial of the Freeman suit, Freeman and her daughter, suing Giuliani for defamation begins.
At this point, I think the attorney for the plaintiffs summed it up best. The only issue
remaining in this trial will be for a jury to determine how much Defendant Giuliani owes
to the plaintiffs for the damage his conduct caused. Obviously Giuliani doesn't like the
way things are proceeding and attempted to suggest that it shouldn't be a jury trial,
it should be a bench trial now. The judge, basically like I know, that's not what's going
to happen here, outside observers kind of saw this as Giuliani's way to try to play the court
a little bit, and it did not work. The district court judge said,
Giuliani's position that the long-standing jury demand in this case was extinguished
when he was found liable on plaintiff's claims by default, is wrong as a matter of law.
Then went on to describe one of the claims as simply nonsense.
At this point, the case moves forward. It's just a few days away. The case will move forward.
and the jury's main job is going to be determined, to determine how much Giuliani
has to pay. The expectation is that it's going to be a big number. I want to say
the lowest estimate I have seen was 15 million and the higher ones are in the
tens of millions. I think one was almost 40. So obviously Giuliani did not want
this to proceed the way it was going and this was kind of an attempt to alter the
dynamics a little bit. Doesn't look like that's gonna play out. It's worth noting
that the amount determined is probably more than Giuliani can actually pay.
There have been a lot of rumors and a lot of speculation about his current
financial situation and that it's not good, much less a
financial state that can deal with a multi-million dollar payout. But we will
continue following it obviously once the trial begins and provide updates
from there. But the key takeaway here is that it does look like it is going to
begin in just a matter of days. Anyway, it's just a thought. Y'all have a good
Have a good day.
