Well, howdy there, internet people.
Let's bow again.
So today, we are going to talk about malaria,
Cameroon, and a world's first.
And why people in the West, particularly in the United
States, should pay attention to this.
Generally speaking, it's pretty hard to get people in the US
to pay attention to, well, anything
that occurs in Africa.
But in this case, this is one of those moments,
you will see this material again.
So Cameroon is engaging in the world's first large scale
malaria vaccine rollout.
Malaria takes out around 600,000 people per year.
More than 80% of those are children under the age of five.
This particular vaccine looks to be about 36% effective by the standards that people would
normally associate with it. So you're talking about a couple hundred thousand lives per year.
It is free for children under six months, I believe, and it's inexpensive across the board.
So this is rolling out. Why is this something that matters to people in the
West? Because as the climate changes, malaria is coming here. It is coming here.
We've talked about it before. There's DOD studies on it and we have seen instances
of it already showing up where you have diseases that aren't normally
locally transmitted that are occurring in the United States. You will see this
material again. So this is one of those things where undoubtedly when it starts
to roll out in the US you're gonna have people say oh we don't need that here
this is just more whatever insert the conspiracy theory. 600,000 a year more
than 80% under the age of 5. This is something that when it starts to roll
out people need to pay attention to it. People need to be ready for it because
it is going to occur because the climate is changing which means a lot of insects
are going to have increased range and a lot of insects that carry certain kinds
of diseases are going to have increased ranges and those ranges will extend into
United States. This isn't a if, it is a matter of when. It is going to occur now.
We're too late to stop that. So it's probably a good idea to start paying
attention to developments like this and kind of ease people into the fact that
it's gonna happen here. Anyway, it's just a thought. I'll have a good day.
